Question about data links triggered from items in canvas

My question is the following:

1- I have a dashboard with a pie-chart and a table. When I click on a segment of the pie-chart, the table shows details of that portion of the pie-chart. I do this by a DataLink from the pie chart that passed the variable to the same dashboard. This occurs without the dashboard reloading.

2- I have a dashboard with a canvas and 5 elements

  • Select all
    • Toggles all 4 switch variables to ‘on’
  • Select option 1
    • Toggles option 1 switch variable to ‘on’ all others ‘off’
  • Select option 2
    • Toggles option 2 switch variable to ‘on’ all others ‘off’
  • Select option 3
    • Toggles option 3 switch variable to ‘on’ all others ‘off’
  • Select option 4
    • Toggles option 4 switch variable to ‘on’ all others ‘off’

This works fine, however the dashboard reloads

What do I need to do for the dashboard to not reload?

I am using Grafana 13.2.1, and already have my URL links formatted as such:

/d/${__dashboard.uid}/${__dashboard.name}?${__org.id}8&var…

What am I missing for the dashboard to not reload (looking to have the same user experience as my pie-chart + table dashboard)

A likely cause is the path in your link. ${__dashboard.name} is the dashboard title, not necessarily the URL slug. So I would try simplifying the URL to →

/d/${__dashboard.uid}?orgId=${__org.id}&var-opt1=on&var-opt2=off&var-opt3=off&var-opt4=off

Alternatively, if you know the dashboard slug, you can use it explicitly instead of ${__dashboard.name} (Grafana has no built-in slug variable, so a constant variable holding the slug works for this).

Also check that “Open in new tab” is disabled on the canvas element’s link.

If it still reloads, could you post the exact canvas link URL and the pie chart data link URL that works? Comparing the two should help identify what is causing the different behavior.
