Hello @iwan2323
I assume you have some targets in your static_configs:
in your prometheus.yml.
If not please be sure you correctly configured your different targets.
Can you share a copyable version of your configuration? Using “```yml” for good format.
Regards
Hello @codi639
Thank you for your response, I really appreciate it.
Below is an example of my prometheus.yml config targeting a website
Regards
Hey,
With your new prometheus file (this is why I wanted you to write your code, but it’s okay I did it myself):
prometheus.yml:
scrape_configs:
- job_name: 'blackbox'
metrics_path: /probe
params:
module: [icmp, http_latency, http_2xx_example, probe_http_status_code]
static_configs:
- targets: ["https://example.com"]
labels:
name: example
group: Website
relabel_configs:
- source_labels: [__address__]
target_label: __param_target
- source_labels: [__param_target__]
target_label: instance
- target_label: __address__
replacement: 'localhost:1234'
You call a modules probe_http_status_code
but in your actual blackbox.yml
you use a http_status_code
. I’m not very used to this, but I think this might be an issue?
Can you try to change your blacbox.yml file:
modules:
http_2xx_example:
prober: http
timeout: 5s
http:
#preferred_ip_protocol: ip4
valid_http_versions: ["HTTP/1.1", "HTTP/2.0"]
valid_status_codes: []
method: GET
http_post_2xx:
prober: http
http:
method: POST
probe_http_status_code: # Adjusted module name to match Prometheus configuration
prober: http
http:
method: GET
Let me know if I’m wrong!

Since blackbox is able to retrieve the probe_http_status_code
but can’t reach it via the /metric endpoint, the problem probably comes from the blackbox.yml configuration.
Maybe your blackbox is taking too long to retrieve the status_code? Try to increase your timeout in your probe_http_status_code. I don’t think this well solve any problem, but who knows?
You can also try to add a skip_verify in case there’s an SSL/TLS issue. I don’t think so since your blackbox fetch other metrics…
probe_http_status_code:
prober: http
timeout: 5s
http:
method: GET
tls_config:
insecure_skip_verify: false
If this don’t work, I’m sorry but I’ll not be able to help you further more : your configuration file looks good for me…
I really appreciate your response, thank you very much for your time.
Yes, you are correct, now the probe_http_status_code appears. Look at the one I marked in red, the icon is different from the others.
But in Grafana, it hasn’t appeared yet. I have restarted the blackbox, Prometheus, and Grafana services, and I have also opened it in incognito mode in the browser.
So the issue was the timeout?
I’m unsure why the probe_http_status_code icon looks like that and its description says “Past Query,” while the others are gauges. Also, until now, probe_http_status_code hasn’t appeared in Grafana’s metrics browser.
To make it simple:
So it’s actually weird that your prometheus show it as a past query. Also, when checking via blackbox it was a gauge…
Can you reach http://localhost:9119/metrics
again to check how it goes?

/metrics endpoint doesn’t provide test results(e. g. status code). You have to scrape /probe endpoint with all required parameters.
hi @jangaraj
What should I do? Is there anything I need to change in the blackbox.yml?
I think this, http://localhost:9115/probe?target=myweb.com&module=probe_http_status_code
, is what @jangaraj is talking about… But this doesn’t solve your past query
issue.
Hey @codi639
you are right, I should not need to add probe_http_status_code
inside prometheus.yml file
This issue has been solved, thank you very much
