Persistent colors across panels or dashboard refreshes

I apologize for this rant, but here it goes anyway…

Assigning colors in a pie chart, bar chart, etc. on the fly by the order that numeric values are being plotted is just brain-dead stupid. Colors should be based on the category (or group-by query value) and must be consistent for those values across panels in a dashboard, and must also be persistent across dashboard refreshes. Otherwise, the visualizations are damned-near useless.

Kibana has been this way for many years. I am not a paying customer, so maybe I have no leverage for a complaint; however, I would never be a paying customer based on this deficiency alone.

You folks are better than this. Please fix it.

100% agree. I don’t know why but randomly today, the colours started changing on my dashboards without me doing ANYTHING at all. My bottom graph has gone from being orange (as it had been for almost a year) to being green, and now purple throughout the day today… but nothing has changed.

I get assigning colours automatically, but once assigned, it shouldn’t change!
