Is there any way to limit amount of selected items in a variable drop-down list?
No there is no limit option currently
4 years later… is there any way to limit the amount of selected items in a drop-down list?
I am also looking for this option, any update?

What is the reason behind this ask? Performance issues on the data fetching side that takes these values?
Main reason we started optimizations is getting " Pop-up “Templating pod - unknown result type” error" . But this particular thing “limiting number of selections” is for negligent users who can select many options while they need a few.

Users will use what you give them 
I think limiting selections is a great feature you should request on github
But until then I recommend maybe using groups and subgroups selectors
Group select will affect the other drop down etc
