Variable dropdown does not populate when linked to a dashboard panel

Hi-

I am trying to create a variable based on the outputs of a panel in the same dashboard.
The table panel output is a list of wells.
In the images you will see the dashboard panel named WellNames and the column wellDisplayName.
In the variable edit screen shot you will see I selected dashboard as my datasource and the query I referenced the panel name.
I think the query for the dashboard panel is where I went wrong.

Any suggestions?

@daniellee or @torkel, any thoughts? I am pretty sure that query syntax for this is not present in the docs currently. Or if it is, it is not labeled as this.
