Plus sign automatic encoding in URL

  • What Grafana version and what operating system are you using?
    7.5.7 on MacOS 13.2.1

  • What are you trying to achieve?
When I go to an URL with a + sign in it, I want it to stay as a + sign.

  • How are you trying to achieve it?
By going to any grafana URL with a + sign in it.

  • What happened?
The + sign is converted to %20.

  • What did you expect to happen?
I expect the + sign to not change to %20.

  • Can you copy/paste the configuration(s) that you are having problems with?
N/A, can try it anywhere on a fresh 7.5.x install. It is solved in 8.x and beyond though, and I’d like to know how.

  • Did you receive any errors in the Grafana UI or in related logs? If so, please tell us exactly what they were.
    N/A

  • Did you follow any online instructions? If so, what is the URL?
    N/A

In what context is this URL you are referring to? a data link?

Hello @yosiasz no particular context, just go to any Grafana install (version 7 and below) and add a + anywhere in the URL in your browser address bar and press enter. You’ll see the + sign getting converted to %20, which is not the case in version 8+.

This makes adding any links to dashboards problematic if you want to have + symbols in your variables values. Since it is effectively solved in version 8+ though, I was hoping to learn how it was solved because I want to stay on version 7 for now.
