When sharing a dashboard, you can choose to export it for sharing externally:
Is it possible to get the exact same JSON over the API?
At the moment I use https://<my.grafana.instance>/api/dashboards/uid/<dashboard-uid>, but this contains all the instance-specific configurations such as data sources.
