Do I need a Promtail AND a Prometheus agent in order to get my logs and metrics into Grafana Cloud?

Absolute beginner here.

  • What are you trying to achieve?
    I want to have my logs and metrics from a Heroku Dyno into Grafana Cloud with the minimum maintenance work possible

  • How are you trying to achieve it?
    From my understanding I would need a Promtail instance running in order to scrap the logs AND a Prometheus Agent to scrap the metrics.

Am I right or I’m missing something? Is this the easiest way of doing it?

If this is the way, then it means that I would need 4 instances just to scrap my two Heroku Dynos (Production and Staging), two for each?

Grafana Agent seems to do both of them at the same time but I haven’t tried
