I am looking into the tempo’s github repo to understand how the code works. I am looking for some sort of documentation which can help me in mapping code to how tempo works from users point of view.
So if possible, do point me to such resources.

we have a docs page on Architecture, and a dedicated section on how to deploy and operate tempo.
API is documted on Tempo API page in docs
if you are looking to contriubte to tempo, check out CONTRIBUTING.md and Design Proposals
let me know something is missing in docs, I will try to get docs updated.
