Grafana 9 look feel and global size in question

  • Intro

I’m (finally) migration my grafana instances to 9.4 branch.

Migration works great, really.

But ONE thing is really annoying : it breaks all my displays. (wall mounted displays, users habits on screen …)
Things are displayed bigger. Why and how to reset it to 8.x size ?

Things are just … bigger for no reason. As if the bigger the screen we have, the more space UI designers want us to loose (or they get old and need glasses.)

Right now, when listing things for instance, I have 2 less items in the list, and that’s just one example.

When sometimes I use a “LOG” view, it’s a pain du to the needed scroll.

Apparently it already happened when moving from 6 to 7 (grafana - Default font sizes in 7.x after upgrading. Any way to change it for all dashboards? - Stack Overflow)

  • What Grafana version and what operating system are you using?

9.4.0

  • What are you trying to achieve?

Migration from 8.3.3

  • What happened?

Overall things works as expected, but are on the ugly side of the force.

  • What did you expect to happen?

my expectations are very low : continue to work

  • Can you copy/paste the configuration(s) that you are having problems with?

no, out of the box config

  • Did you receive any errors in the Grafana UI or in related logs? If so, please tell us exactly what they were.

  • Did you follow any online instructions? If so, what is the URL?
    no

Find here another example : Starred items are now so huge … that the “drawer” receives a “scrool arrow” at the bottom (event with still half the screen empty, by the way).
Seriously.
