Cloud Trace vs. Tempo Pricing?

I’m looking into Grafana Tempo at the moment- I think the idea of cutting down storage/ingest costs by only pulling traces by ID is a smart idea. Grafana Cloud Trace seems to use Tempo as its backend which I’m interested in, but… it doesn’t seem to have this particular upside? As far as I can tell traces are fully indexed & searchable, and while the costs aren’t terribly expensive, they also aren’t TREMENDOUSLY cheap. Pretty middle of the road, I’m pretty sure GCP Cloud Trace costs roughly the same, at $0.20/million spans.

So is the only way to get the low-cost upside advertised by tempo to self-host?
