Set axis scaling with variables

  • What Grafana version and what operating system are you using?
tested on v8.2.5 and 9.3.6, CentOS

  • What are you trying to achieve?
Give non editors the chance to set min/max of y-axis via defined variables

  • How are you trying to achieve it?
Setting up variables (Y_MIN/Y_MAX) and use them in panel/axis options (as “$Y_MIN”)

  • What happened?
For (soft)min/max nothing happened. Label schows the text, but not the value of the variable.
For the panel title (=Y_MIN) it is working!

  • What did you expect to happen?
Min/max settings of axis should take value of variable.

This seems to be a known feature request:

I would recommend giving more upvotes to it so that it gets more priority and visibility to get on the roadmap.

But that “feature request” is just a discussion about requesting the feature, not an actual “issue” entry

Hi @benjamingslade

Yes, you are correct. But at the same time, the team are tracking these discussions as well.

Also, some changes to improve the responses of these feature requests are also on the roadmap (It may take a bit of time but will happen).

But this basic feature request has been discussed for years, so “the team” must not understand how fundamental this is to the use of Grafana.
