S3 API Compatible solutions for production

Hello,

You mentioned (here: Manage storage | Grafana Loki documentation) that you are okay with Amazon S3 but don’t recommend using S3 API Compatible solutions for production. However, can we still use Acronis, Ceph, and MiniIO, which are S3 API compatible. Here are my questions:

Are there any production environments where S3 API compatible storage solutions are used?
Is there a reason why S3 API compatible storage solutions are not approved for production?
Under what circumstances can we use S3 API compatible solutions in production?

You can absolutely still use them if that’s what your organization uses as a solution. Generally speaking most organizations won’t be able to stand up their own S3-compatible solution that’s as robust and performant as S3 itself, combined with the fact Grafana Loki team probably isn’t testing against every S3-compatible solutions under the sun, that’s probably why it’s worded that way.
