Modifying a variable with regex in a query

Hey guys

Could someone point me to an answer or is this a non-starter?

I am using variables in queries, no issue.
But I want to display in the templated var dropdown to the users a concatenated and more informative value. But I only want to use part of the display value in the query (its a formatted time string).

Can do or outta scope?

my input is: I can’t say for sure if this is possible. But I know that a lot of people run into resistance when combining regex-based value-mapping with template variables. They just aren’t that interoperable. This sounds similar?
