Yes, it is very important to secure your Grafana server and login (auth) is one of them.

Please have a look at this page where it gives a very nice summary what important steps need to be taken to secure your machine.

Also,

as a starting point, you can also setup a HTTPS (via SSL) behind a reverse-proxy (e.g. Nginx) and a firewall to limit the traffic who can access the server.
