Feature idea: easy backup / restore

I don’t know about you folks, but after months of creating and tweaking so many dashboards, user access, data sources, various plugins, etc., I can’t say I would be able to easily recreate all that if my server died and my data was lost. But I DO know it would take a WHILE.

So many of you might say, “well, actually, all you have to do is back up SQLLite,” or whatever - many of us have no idea how to do that, and it would be a bit different depending on what database you’re using to store your settings, or which OS you’re on (maybe).

So why not suggest either a plugin or core feature that replicates everything down to the last detail in a single file, right from the UI, which you could use to restore to a new instance of Grafana if your server died?

Related functions could include:

  • Scheduled backups
  • Email of that backup as an attachment

Most products that use any sort of database usually never implement what you are requesting though it would be a great feature.

usually this type of stuff is done by admin or dba.

you can accomplish this type of stuff very easily using scripting language such as python

Exactly my point!
