Update of Raspbian

I would like to update the OS on my raspberry where Grafana is installed (ioBroker, which is collecting the data from different sources is asking for an OS-update since some time). The current OS is Debian Linux 12 (bookworm) and available as an update is Debian version 13 (trixie). My question: Are there any experiences regarding the risk to damage the Grafana and ioBroker-installation when doing the update or is it uncritical?

Welcome @thomasherbst

I am not sure that someone who has done this same upgrade will read your post and share their experience. I’d recommend you obtain a 2nd Raspberry Pi and perform a number of simulations there so you can be more sure. E.g.

  • set up 2nd Pi with Bookwork and Grafana (connected to your same datasource) and do the upgrade to Trixie and see what happens
  • set up 2nd Pi with Trixie and import a copy of your Grafana settings, including the SQLite DB, then connect to your datasource and see what happens

I’d suggest that you don’t need to buy another Pi - just get a second SD card,
or whatever it is that you have your O/S on.

Shut down the Pi, take out the SD card or disconnect the SSD, whichever
applies, do a direct image of that onto another SD card / SSD, then use that
for your upgrade experiments, knowing you can always plug the original back in
if things go badly.

Antony.
