The future of datasource managed alerts (support for Mimir Alertmanager)

Hi all,

Having read the following blog about alerting changes in Grafana Cloud, does anyone know what the future holds for Mimir Alertmanager in Grafana opensource? Will it continue to be supported?

That blog is Grafana Cloud-specific → it covers the move away from preprovisioned data source-managed alerts (for example, Kubernetes Monitoring) in favor of Grafana-managed alerting (GMA) as the default for new Cloud stacks. Existing Cloud stacks aren’t affected, and Cloud still supports adding your own Mimir/Loki/Alertmanager data sources for data source-managed alerting.

This doesn’t imply any deprecation of self-hosted Mimir or its Alertmanager component. Mimir Alertmanager remains a core Mimir component, and there hasn’t been any deprecation announcement for it. It’s also continuing to receive updates in recent Mimir releases.

I also haven’t seen Grafana Labs publish an explicit long-term roadmap or support statement for Mimir Alertmanager, so if you’re looking for a definitive answer about future plans, a Grafana Labs maintainer on the Mimir GitHub repo or Grafana Slack would be the best source.

Thanks for the reply @infofcc3 , that’s reassuring to hear. I’ve posted on Grafana Labs’ Slack as well.
