Multi-select variables UX has problems

  • What Grafana version and what operating system are you using?

  • What are you trying to achieve?
    Deselecting the department values here: PostgreSQL overview - Examples - Dashboards - Grafana

  • How are you trying to achieve it?
    Either deselecting the selected values one by one, or clicking on the little x button at the right side of the box.

  • What happened?
    Deselecting all selected bubbles in a multi-select list does not show me, that it keeps the values in the background.

  • What did you expect to happen?
    It either make an aggregated view for all available values (if the all option is available) or shows me nothing.

Reproducing the problem:

  1. Open this page: PostgreSQL overview - Examples - Dashboards - Grafana
  2. Now you can see the Finance and Development department data. Now click on the little x at the right side of the Department box.
  3. Clicking the little x has no effect. Nothing happens, even after clicking on the Refresh button. In the URL you can still can see the following values: var-department=d002&var-department=d005, however you can’t see the departments any more in the Department box.

Interesting, for me, it’s not changing there as well.
The browser versions where this issue occured for me:

  • Edge: 133.0.3065.92
  • Google Chrome: 134.0.6998.36
  • Firefox: 128.8.0esr
