We use elasticsearch as a datasource. So there is no easy solution to display numbered rows in a table panel.
Therefore I suggest a new table option:
Show Row Numbers - toggle to show/hide row numbers
Until that feature gets implemented you might want to look at using the dynamic text plugin where in you have more control of the table

What benefit do row numbers provide you?
Tables containing numbered rows are in many cases easier to read. The user feels a little bit inside a spreadsheet
