Dealing with dead and abandoned plugins

It’s not helpful to discover that plugins are broken and have been abandoned after having wasted a bunch of time trying to make them work. Some sort of “heartbeat” mechanism to remove plugins where devs have gone AWOL and left plugins in a broken state would be appreciated. A clear hint is when the plugin description has broken links. This stuff matters, and as there are only 18 data sources in the standard install, you’d think this would be manageable. I checked the forums, and it turns out, this plugin has been left broken for years!

In this case, the Finance plugin (https://github.com/ayoungprogrammer/grafana-finance/issues).

Unfortunately the only way to “deal” with dead plugins is to fork them, make any updates you want and release them as a new plugin.
